cherry-colored funk world premiering at 34th florida film festival
...hello! Thanks for checking out our website.
YUMEJI HOUSE PICTURES is a DC-based independent production company founded by longtime collaborators, Chelsie Pennello and Corbett Blair, in 2024.
At that point, we had made several short films together - usually with Chelsie directing, Cory composing, and both of us co-writing - and felt it was about time for our films to have a home. The name Yumeji, taken from the song “Yumeji’s Theme” in Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love, is an ode to our shared interest in films that use music in demanding ways.
One of the main through-lines in our work is an attraction to spaces we like to call “jerry-rigged Americana”. Think a church basement turned community center and funeral home, a minority-owned Italian ice shop decorated with hideous DIY graphics - the truly American phenomenon of outsiders reimagining existing spaces, carving their own little place to fit in.
We’ve shot all of our films locally and the plan is to continue doing that.
